Love & Laundry

Now that our back basement isn't as scary and ugly as it was before... I decided I wanted something a little cheery to look at while doing laundry.  And I found the perfect bare spot on the wall to do just that.
I found this idea on Pinterest (surprise!) where you put a quote on canvas- pretty simple!  You can put anything on the blank canvas- torn out magazines, sheet music or just use an old painting. I decided to cover my canvas with designer duct tape.  Then I laid out the vinyl sticker letters to get an idea where I wanted them.
Then I started to stick my letters in place.
Not done yet (cause I needed to get another pack of letters), but I propped it up to see how it was coming along.
"THIS HOME HAS ENDLESS LOVE & LAUNDRY"
Then I painted over the entire canvas.  There's no turning back now (eeks!)
Prayed and peeled the letters off.  And...
It failed!!
The paint didn't want to stick to the smooth duct tape- I should have known!  So when I peeled the stickers off, the paint peeled off too.  But the good thing is that since the paint didn't stick to the tape- I was able to remove ALL the paint.  I sat there (angry) and scratched it all off with my nails (I know there's probably more efficient ways to do it, but I didn't care).  So now I'm on to plan B... not entirely sure what that is though.
Guess I could submit this to Pinterest Fail :)

Oh my word I am glad I read this (although I am sad for you!!!). This was the next project I was going to tackle - I pinned it awhile ago!

Melissa,
I'm sure it would have worked if I had a different background to paint on, but I really liked the tape and I didn't even think about the texture when I decided on using it. It was just too smooth (like if you were to try to paint over laminate without sanding it first, you know?). So it's probably still worth tackling the project.

Oh, my plan B might be the opposite look of my plan A. Have the teal chevron be the main background with orange letters. Might paint the vinyl stickers orange and modge podge over the entire thing so they stick really good. We'll see :)

I like your Plan B. It looks like it would be really cute if you could get it to work. You'll have to do a follow up post to let me know if it does end up working:)
