Apparently Peyton doesn't want to be anything like her siblings... with Jadyn and Ashton I was induced, my water was broke at the hospital, I received an epidural, and they were delivered by a doctor. Not so with Peyton. Here's my labor and delivery story:
After a long Father's Day, my water broke right before bedtime. We finished packing our hospital bag and once my parents arrived at our house, we headed to the hospital. Everything else is a little blurry for me cause it all went by so fast (Brad knows the timeline better than I do). Sometime after midnight, we were at the hospital and in the labor and delivery room. There was so much paperwork to do and questions to answers... it seemed like forever until my nurse actually checked me out (side note: our experience with her was not a great one). She said I was measuring only 1.5cm, which I found surprising since last week at my doctor's appointment I was 2-3cm. As the contractions got closer and stronger, I asked for an epidural. The nurse said I had to wait until I was 3-4cm along and wait until I had received a bunch of IV fluids. Well, the contractions were getting really strong; Brad and my Mom could tell I was in pain. And I could tell that my body wanted to push. Eventually the nurse checked me again and told me she was sorry but it was too late for an epidural. I wasn't sure how I was going to handle being in labor much longer. The doctor was called and on her way to the hospital and an other doctor (who was at the hospital) was on her way as well (side note: my doctor was on vacation so I wasn't sure what doctor would be delivering Peyton). Anyway... I was laying on my side cause they were having trouble finding Peyton's heartbeat. As I laid there, a nurse told me not to push, but just breath slowly. My body said push. And with that contraction, I pushed Peyton out. I had no idea that no one was at the foot of the bed. One nurse was calling a doctor, an other was getting gloves on, and I'm not sure what the other was doing. Well, Brad heard a little cry and said, "She's here." The nurses looked shocked, pulled backed the sheets, and there was Peyton. It all happened so fast, the whole night did actually (around 5 hours). I'm just so grateful that she was safe and healthy- especially since there was no doctor around and no one even knew she had arrived until Brad heard her little cry. God is good!
Pictures blurry cause she's a mover! And right before they weighed her and I told Brad to take a guess on her weight. He guessed 7lbs. 12oz. but the nurses thought maybe only 7lbs. Well, a Daddy knows his baby... he got it right :)
